Agartala: July 16. The wave of protests centering transfer of teachers seems to have reached Agartala city as well. In rural areas such protests are common but Agartala city on Saturday witnessed an unlikely scene when parents of Umakanta Academy staged a road blockade citing the issue of teacher crisis. The short-lived protests however lifted soon after the intervention of police.
Speaking with reporters the agitating teachers said that the school is harshly hit due to teacher crisis. In one class room two classes are being taught which never happened in Umakanta Academy school. We have organized the blockade to ensure that Jhalak Sir is not transferred. If he gets transferred the school will suffer a lot.
Another parent said that one of the teachers of this school has been transferred and the parents feel that his transfer will affect the studies of students. The parents have expressed their apprehensions regarding proper care of the students studying here. We have told them, if they have any issues they should flag this before the appropriate authorities and raod blockade is not a situation. Subsequently, the blockade was lifted and they are now going to meet the director of school education department.
