Agartala, 5th March 2024:   In a desperate bid to draw attention to their plight, residents of Beltala area in Ward No. 6 of Kadamtala Gram Panchayat staged a road blockade on the alternative national highway near Kadamtala market this morning. The protest, led by women, lasted for several hours, bringing traffic to a standstill.

The situation has been dire for the past 15 days, with more than 150 families grappling with an acute shortage of drinking water. Despite multiple complaints to the authorities, no action had been taken, leaving the residents to face daily challenges.

After enduring five days of water scarcity, the frustrated residents decided to take matters into their own hands. This morning, they gathered to block the road, aiming to bring attention to their prolonged suffering. The blockade created a traffic snarl on the alternative national highway, prompting high-ranking officers from the administration to rush to the spot upon receiving the news.

Upon reaching the protest site, the officials engaged in a dialogue with the demonstrators, including members of Pramila Bahini. After listening to their grievances, the officers assured swift action to address the water shortage issue. In light of this commitment, the protesters decided to lift the road blockade.

It remains to be seen how quickly the promised resolution will be implemented, and the residents are hopeful that their long-standing water woes will be addressed without further delay. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the critical need for prompt and effective responses to community concerns, especi ally when basic necessities such as drinking water are at stake.
