Agartala, 28th September 2024: Retired Inspector General (IG) of Tripura police Arindam Nath passed away on Saturday morning at Bengaluru’s renowned Narayana Hrudayalaya hospital managed by famed heart surgeon Dr. Devi Shetty. Nath (62) had been under treatment for a heart ailment for nearly a month and underwent major surgery. Unfortunately, complications post-surgery required him to remain hospitalized. He is survived by his wife, a serving doctor in Tripura and a son, an engineer.
Nath is a native of North Tripura served the Tripura Police Service (TPS) with distinction. He joined the service after a brief stint as a physics teacher and played a pivotal role in countering insurgency and reducing criminal activity. Nath rose from the rank of DSP to IG and retired in 2022 after an extension.
In addition to his police career, Nath was a prolific writer. His book, From Mahabharata to Bharat, gained popularity among readers. Nath’s health had deteriorated after contracting COVID-19 in 2021, which weakened his heart.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha expressed his grief: “He will always be remembered for his dedication and contribution to literature.” Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath added, “A great loss to the people of Tripura. My heartfelt condolences to his family.”
