Agartala, 7th April 2025: The Tripura State Rifles (TSR), once hailed as the pride of the state are now mired in controversy as serious allegations surface from within the ranks. Several disabled jawans have come forward, accusing certain officers of harassment, fabricated transfers, and inhumane treatment.
According to multiple jawans, Jayanta Chakraborty, the Subedar Head Clerk of the 1st Battalion is allegedly at the center of these controversies. “He is transferring disabled soldiers on fabricated grounds and mentally torturing them. Those who are over 50 percent disabled are being posted to remote battalions, while fully fit jawans are retained in favorable positions,” one affected jawan claimed.
The jawans further alleged that Chakraborty manipulates postings based on personal preferences. “He is showing off his power by keeping those he favors in permanent positions while sending others far away as punishment,” said another jawan. “This is nothing short of misuse of power.”
Criticism has also been directed at higher officials for their alleged inaction. “The top brass is turning a blind eye to all of this. Despite repeated complaints, no one wants to take action against him. People like Jayanta Chakraborty are thriving because no one is willing to intervene,” said a senior jawan under the condition of anonymity.
It has also been reported that Chakraborty had earlier been transferred to the 13th Battalion but managed to return to his preferred 1st Battalion with the support of senior officers. “He openly uses his connections to get what he wants,” a source close to the matter revealed.
Disabled TSR jawans are now pleading with the authorities. “We urge the higher officials sitting at the State Police Headquarters to take immediate action and put an end to these inhuman activities,” said a group of affected personnel in a joint statement.
