Agartala, 28th August 2025:    In preparation for the upcoming Durga Puja festivities, a high-level coordination meeting was held this evening at Sabroom Police Station to strengthen law and order, bolster border security, and prevent illegal infiltration. The meeting, chaired by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Nityananda Sarkar, brought together officials from the 121st and 114th BSF battalions, representatives of various intelligence agencies, and officers from Sabroom and Manu police stations.

The hour-and-a-half-long meeting, which commenced at 6:00 PM, focused on three key areas: maintaining public order during the festival, enhancing surveillance along the Indo-Bangladesh border, and curbing cross-border smuggling and unauthorized entry.

Addressing the gathering, SDPO Sarkar emphasized that Durga Puja is not only a religious celebration but also a symbol of social harmony. “Thousands gather at puja pandals, markets bustle with activity, and both rural and urban areas see increased footfall. It is imperative that puja committees, citizens, and security forces work in tandem,” he stated. He instructed police and BSF personnel to intensify vigilance along border areas to prevent any unlawful activities during the festive period.

BSF officials assured that additional patrols would be deployed, particularly along riverine stretches and vulnerable crossing points. Intelligence representatives revealed plans to deploy special teams tasked with gathering advance information on suspicious movements and sharing it promptly with law enforcement.

Police officers from Sabroom and Manu outlined detailed strategies for traffic management, crowd control, and pandal security. Regular police patrols will be conducted at all major puja venues, and volunteer groups may be engaged to support law enforcement efforts.

Speaking to the media personnel after the meeting, SDPO Sarkar said, “Durga Puja is the heartbeat of Bengali culture. We are taking all necessary steps to ensure a peaceful and joyous celebration. A coordinated approach involving the BSF, intelligence agencies, and police will ensure heightened security and public confidence.”

Sabroom, a sensitive border subdivision adjoining Bangladesh, often witnesses increased risks of infiltration and smuggling during Durga Puja. The decisions taken at today’s meeting mark a proactive step toward field-level implementation of enhanced security protocols.
