Agartala: September 03. On the auspicious occasion of Jhulan Yatra, a shocking incident of food adulteration has sent shockwaves through the Jagannath Jiu Temple premises in Agartala.
Despite repeated complaints, the administration has failed to take any action against the unscrupulous vendors operating stalls in the temple vicinity.
The shocking revelation came to light when vigilant customers discovered a vendor using a bucket of muddy water, allegedly sourced from the Jagannath Jiu temple pond and tap water, in the preparation of various food items, including sweets items.
The incident occurred on a Sunday morning when people at Bishnu Saha’s shop were seen mixing this questionable water into the flour for Jalebi.
This discovery sent a ripple of concern and anger through the crowd, with people flocking to the shop to express their outrage. Bishnu Saha, the shopkeeper, eventually admitted to using substandard ingredients, a practice apparently commonplace during Jhulan Yatra. It has raised concerns about the potential health hazards posed by consuming such low-quality food, which may lead to various diseases.
Despite the annual presence of such food stalls on the roadside, authorities from the Health and Family Welfare Department and the Food Safety Officer have consistently failed to inspect the food preparation process. This lax oversight has allowed unscrupulous vendors to compromise the safety of consumers.
The situation escalated further as locals alleged that they had repeatedly consumed food from Bishnu Saha’s shop in the past, expressing fears about the health of their children. This revelation has added to the growing discontent in the area.
