BY TC News Desk

Agartala, 6th December 2024:  Students of Garardang Higher Secondary School in Kalachara under Satchand block of Sabroom subdivision blocked National Highway No. 8 on Friday. The blockade brought traffic to a standstill, causing severe inconvenience to drivers and passengers.

The protest was sparked by the transfer of Ranjit Debbarma, a history teacher at the school. Although Garardang Higher Secondary School is a Bengali medium institution, most of its students belong to the tribal community. Ranjit Debbarma, being a tribal himself has been instrumental in effectively communicating and teaching the tribal students. His sudden transfer led to the students’ decision to block the highway in protest.

A social worker Biplab Sen and Manu Bazar police station staff rushed to the scene upon receiving the news. They engaged with the protesting students and assured them that the matter of the teacher’s transfer would be addressed. Following this assurance, the students agreed to lift the blockade, allowing traffic to resume.
