TSECL Intensifies Crackdown on Electricity Theft, Launches Helpline for Public Complaints

BY TC News Desk

Agartala, 6th December 2024:  In a determined effort to curb electricity theft in the state, the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) has ramped up its vigilance operations against the illegal use of hook lines. To encourage public participation, TSECL has also introduced a complaint helpline for reporting such violations.

A senior official from TSECL highlighted the risks posed by illegal hook lines, which not only jeopardize lives but also lead to power outages, fires, and significant financial losses for the corporation.  “Law-abiding consumers are unfairly burdened with higher tariffs due to these unlawful activities. Our vigilance teams are conducting daily raids, seizing illegal equipment, and imposing fines to tackle this issue. Tragically, several areas in Tripura have witnessed accidents and fatalities caused by hook lines, yet the malpractice continues in certain parts of the state,” the official said.

To combat this menace, TSECL is urging public cooperation. Citizens can report electricity theft by sharing the location, address, and a photograph via WhatsApp at *9863596081*.  “The identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential to ensure their safety. This initiative empowers the public to play an active role in preventing electricity theft, allowing our vigilance teams to respond swiftly and effectively. The primary goal is to save lives, ensure public safety, and provide an uninterrupted power supply to all consumers,” the official added.

TSECL has appealed to citizens to remain vigilant and report any violations. By taking decisive action against electricity theft, the corporation aims to enhance the efficiency of its services, ensure fair access to power, and promote public safety across Tripura.
