Agartala, 12th July 2024: Political tension escalates around the panchayat elections in the state, with candidates supported by the Left Front reportedly attacked by ruling party miscreants while submitting their nomination papers. “Bricks were pelted on them in front of the police, and many leaders and activists, including State Secretariat member and former MLA Sudhan Das, were injured,” claimed CPIM leader accusing the ruling BJP of orchestrating the violence.
Former MLA Sudhan Das said, “All preparations were made to submit nomination papers for Panchayat Samiti and various Panchayats in Rajnagar block under Belonia sub-division from this morning. But hundreds of BJP miscreants gathered at the Rajnagar school and attacked leftist leaders and activists in front of the police.”
He further alleged, “The BJP government has spread corruption in the state’s panchayats. Today, BJP is unable to field candidates in elections because they are isolated. The people will vote against the BJP in the panchayat elections, and this fear is driving their actions.”
In response to the attacks, CPIM blocked the road in protest, highlighting the growing unrest and accusations of misconduct surrounding the election process.
