Agartala, 1st March 2025 :   Three Left leaders from South Tripura district have surrendered in court following orders from the Supreme Court. CPIM South District Secretary Tapas Dutta, Trilokesh Sinha and All India Krishak Sabha Belonia Divisional Secretary Babul Debnath appeared in Belonia Court on Saturday afternoon.

The surrender comes in connection with an allegation of physical assault on Judge Ruhi Das Pal of Belonia Court in 2015. The incident occurred on September 2, 2015, when the Left Trade Union had called for a bandh. During the bandh, the three leaders, along with others, allegedly entered the court and assaulted Judge Ruhi Das Pal.

Government lawyer Kishore Majumdar, speaking to reporters, confirmed the surrender. “The three Left leaders accused of physically assaulting Judge Ruhi Das Pal have finally surrendered in Belonia Court,” he stated. Majumdar further explained that the case was initially registered by the then Belonia SDPO Sudip Pal as a suo motu case, with the case number Belonia Police Station -113/15.

Following the incident, the accused were released on bail after filing a writ petition in the Supreme Court. However, the Supreme Court recently ordered their surrender, leading to their appearance in court on Saturday.

“The surrender of these leaders is a significant step in the legal proceedings. The next hearing of the case in the Supreme Court is scheduled for March 18,” Majumdar added.
