Agartala, 26th April 2025: In a major push towards enhancing agricultural livelihoods in Tripura, Basix Krishi Samruddhi Limited (BKSL), a national-level organization promoting agri-based livelihoods, conducted a training program on “Modern Technologies of Horticulture” at Dalura Panchayat Office under Old Agartala RD Block in West Tripura district.
The initiative was supported by the Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), Dimapur, Nagaland, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India.
The training program witnessed the participation of 58 farmers from five RD Blocks — Hezamara, Lefunga, Old Agartala, Jirania, and Mandwi — who pledged to implement the new knowledge gained in their farming practices.
The day-long training focused on a wide range of modern horticultural techniques including Agar plantation, Honey Bee culture, Mushroom cultivation, Coconut and Sapri Banana plantation, production of homemade organic manure, and pest and disease management.
Renowned agricultural experts — Mr. Khokan Roy, Retired Deputy Director of Horticulture, Government of Tripura, and Dr. Bipul Das Chowdhury, Guest Lecturer at the Department of Environmental Science, Maharaja Bir Bikram College — served as resource persons, sharing valuable insights with the farmers.
In addition to skill development, five Farmers Producer Companies (FPOs) are actively supporting the trained farmers by aggregating their produce for bulk marketing, ensuring better price realization and improved market access.
BKSL and CIH aim to strengthen farmers’ capacities by promoting Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), sustainable farming methods, local-level value addition, and exploring alternate markets. The training is seen as a step forward in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through improved farm productivity, enhanced income, and sustainable agricultural practices.
Farmers expressed optimism that the training will significantly enhance their agricultural outcomes and empower them towards a more resilient and profitable future.
