Tributes paid to Tagore on 165th birth anniversary at Matabari

Date:

Agartala, 9th May 2026 :  A grand and heartfelt celebration was organized near the Matabari Bypass to mark the 165th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, the revered poet and philosopher.

The day’s program began with floral tributes at Tagore’s marble statue, followed by a vibrant cultural event featuring Rabindra Sangeet, recitations, and dance performances that brought the poet’s creations alive for the younger generation.

The event was jointly hosted under the supervision of the Gomati District Information and Cultural Department, Gomati Zilla Parishad, and Matabari RD Block. Distinguished guests included Gomati Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Debal Debroy, MLA Abhishek Debroy, Vice-Chairperson Sujan Kumar Sen, Matabari Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Shilpi Das, and Director of the Information and Cultural Department Tinku Biswas, along with other eminent personalities. The presence of students from various schools added youthful energy to the occasion.

The program commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by the resonant recitation of Tagore’s immortal lines:

“Where the mind is without fear, and the head is held high…”

— words that continue to echo humanity’s call for freedom and dignity.

Speakers reflected on Tagore’s philosophy, literary contributions, and humanistic values. They emphasized that Tagore was not merely a poet but a timeless thinker whose writings embodied love, protest, nature’s beauty, and the power of social change.

A special message was conveyed to the modern generation: in an age dominated by digital screens, Tagore’s vision reminds humanity to reconnect with nature and embrace compassion. Even in the era of artificial intelligence, his ideals inspire truth, beauty, and creativity. His iconic call “Ekla Chalo Re” remains a symbol of courage for those who walk alone in struggle.

As evening descended, the venue resonated with soulful Rabindra Sangeet, creating an atmosphere of deep reverence and emotion. The celebration reaffirmed that Tagore lives on through his creations, etched forever in the hearts of Bengalis and admirers worldwide.
