Agartala, November 01: The Tripura government has decided to convert the 132 KV power sub-station at Suryamaninagar into a 400 KV sub-station to enhance its capacity and efficiency. The central government has already agreed to provide financial and technical support for this project.
Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath announced this after inspecting the 132 KV sub-station at Suryamaninagar on Wednesday. He said that the project will cost a total of 191 crore 20 lakh rupees.
Nath said that the Suryamaninagar sub-station is the largest sub-station in the North Eastern region and it needs to be upgraded to meet the growing electricity demand of the state in the future. He said that his visit was to check all the aspects of the project and ensure its timely completion.
He claimed that the state will need 903 MW of electricity by 2030 and that the upgraded sub-station will help in meeting this requirement. He also said that the sub-station will provide electricity service directly to Bangladesh in the coming days, as part of the bilateral cooperation between the two countries. He added that the state government is giving special emphasis to provide improved voltage in various sectors, including agriculture, air and rail services.
He also said that Tripura will become a power hub in the region if the Suryamaninagar sub-station is improved. He thanked the central government for agreeing to support this project and expressed hope that it will benefit the people of Tripura and Bangladesh.
