Agartala, 22nd March 2025:  The Twipra Students Federation (TSF), has announced that it will continue its protest in Agartala on Monday while expressing readiness for discussions with Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha to resolve the ongoing Kokborok script issue.

Speaking on Saturday, TSF Vice President John Debbarma reaffirmed their stance, stating, “We called for a strike to demand the use of the Roman script for printing textbooks and question papers. We acknowledge the Chief Minister’s response, where he mentioned seeking a resolution. We also believe that dialogue is the key to a solution. Our peaceful protest in Agartala will continue on Monday, but if the Chief Minister is sincere about resolving the issue, we are prepared for discussions. However, we stand firm on our demand and cannot compromise.”

Debbarma emphasized that the demand for the Roman script reflects the aspirations of the indigenous community. Addressing concerns over disruptions caused by Friday’s protest, Debbarma clarified, “We ensured that emergency services were not hindered. Ambulances and other emergency vehicles were allowed to pass without any obstruction.”

He also called upon indigenous leaders, including BJP Minister Bikas Debbarma and Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury, to clearly state their position on the Roman script issue, urging them to support the aspirations of the indigenous community.
