Unakoti district hospital’s operation theatre in crisis: Nurse accused of neglect

Agartala, 12th February 2026:   Serious allegations have surfaced surrounding the operation theatre of Unakoti District Hospital, raising concerns about the quality of public healthcare services. Staff members claim that a nurse posted in the hospital’s operation theatre has been neglecting her government duties while regularly working at a private hospital, where her husband is employed.

According to multiple hospital employees, the nurse is frequently absent from the district hospital, instead taking charge of the operation theatre at the private facility. Colleagues allege that she is motivated by the lure of extra income. As a result, surgeries at the district hospital are often disrupted, leaving patients to suffer.

More troubling, staff members accuse her of using political connections to intimidate colleagues. “Despite being assigned to such a critical department, she is often missing. Sometimes patients are even advised to go to the private hospital. Whenever we protest, we are threatened in the name of the ruling party,” said one health worker, who requested anonymity.

The situation has reportedly persisted for a long time, but fear has kept many employees silent. Within the hospital, she has even earned the nickname “Lady Don.” The controversy has sparked questions about accountability in the district’s main referral hospital, where lapses in duty directly affect public trust.

When contacted, Dr. Rohan Pal, Medical Superintendent of Unakoti District Hospital, said he has not received any formal written complaint on the matter. However, public health advocates insist that the issue must be investigated promptly and appropriate administrative action taken. They argue that such allegations not only damage the credibility of government healthcare but also endanger the lives of ordinary citizens who depend on it.
