Cong accuses BJP leader Yatnal for making ‘derogatory’ remarks against Sonia

Date:

New Delhi, Apr 28 (UNI) The Congress on Friday accused Karnataka BJP MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal for making ‘derogatory’ remarks against former party president Sonia Gandhi and demanded action against him.

“BJP legislator Basangouda Patil Yatnal has made derogatory remarks about UPA (United Progressive Alliance) Chairperson and former Congress President Sonia Gandhi ji, calling her ‘Visha Kanye’. This language is derogatory, offensive and completely unacceptable,” the party said in a tweet. The Congress added, “We demand appropriate action against Yatnal for his abhorrent conduct. Furthermore, PM Narendra Modi and (Karnataka) CM Basavaraj Bommai should take responsibility for the actions of their party members and issue an apology.”

Meanwhile, senior Congress leader KC Venugopal said, in “Every election, they hurl new abuses to insult Sonia Gandhi ji, who has led her entire life with utmost dignity and grace.BJP continues to stoop to new lows, with their filthy language against our leaders.”

“Modi ji, do you endorse these words?,” the Congress MP asked.
Echoing a similar sentiment, Congress MP Randeep Singh Surjewala said, “Instructed by PM Narendra Modi and supported by CM Basavaraj Bommai, BJP leader and Modi Ji’s personal favourite, Basangouda Patil Yatnal has stooped to the lowest by calling UPA Chairperson and former Congress president Sonia Gandhi as ‘Visha Kanye’ and agent of China and Pakistan.” “This is the worst kind of sacrilege and abuse being hurled upon Sonia Gandhi and Congress leadership at the instance of PM and CM. If the PM has even an iota of decency or dignity, he should immediately expel Basangouda Patil Yatnal from the BJP,” Surjewala said.

Endorsing Surjewala, Congress MP Jairam Ramesh said, “Desperation and despair has made BJP stoop to name calling. Their star campaigner Basangouda Patil Yatnal has called former CP, Smt Sonia Gandhi ‘Visha Kanya’ and ‘Agent of China and Pakistan’. Does the PM approve? He should immediately expel Yatnal and apologise to Mrs Gandhi.”
Reportedly, the Karnataka BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal made the statement against the former Congress chief while addressing a public rally in the poll-bound state.

Elections to the 224 member Karnataka Assembly will be held on May 10. The results will be declared on May 13. The Opposition Congress is eyeing to return to power. The BJP is hopeful that it will retain power.
