Day after defeat, Omar thanks voters

Date:

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference vice president Omar Abdullah on Wednesday thanked the voters for making their effort to reach polling booths and thus “keeping the flame of democracy alive”.

Omar’s message came a day after he lost the Baramulla Lok Sabha seat to jailed politician Abdul Rashid Sheikh aka Engineer Rashid by a margin of over two lakh votes.

“In all the noise & the deep personal disappointment yesterday (and a bit of quite satisfaction looking at the national results & @JKNC_victories elsewhere) I overlooked thanking the voters of North Kashmir, especially the ones who voted for me, for coming out & using your vote to make your voices heard.

“Thank you for making the effort to come to the polling booths & keeping the flame of democracy alive,” Omar posted on X.
