Maha: PM Modi to inaugurate several development projects

Date:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate, dedicate and lay foundation stones of several development projects worth more than Rs 30,500 crores during his visit to Maharashtra on January 12.

An official statement here on Thursday said the Prime Minister will arrive in Nashik around 12:15 PM and will inaugurate the 27th National Youth Festival.

The Prime Minister will inaugurate the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Shivdi-Nhava Sheva Atal Setu in Mumbai at around 3:30 PM.

The foundation stone of this bridge was laid by Prime Minister Modi in December 2016.

Atal Setu, a six-tier bridge with a length of 21.8 km, has been constructed with a total expenditure of more than Rs 17,840 crore.

Out of 21.8 km, 16.5 km is spread over the sea, and the rest, about 5.5 km, is spread over land. It is the longest bridge in India as well as the longest sea bridge in the country.

The bridge will provide faster connectivity to Mumbai International Airport and Navi Mumbai International Airport and also save travel time from Mumbai to Pune, Goa, and South India, the statement said.

Due to this, the traffic system between Mumbai Port and Jawaharlal Nehru Port will be improved.

Apart from it, Modi will inaugurate, dedicate, and lay the foundation stones of various development projects worth over Rs 12,700 crore at a public event in New Mumbai.

The Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for the underground road tunnel connecting Eastern Freeway from Orange Gate to Marine Drive. This 9.2 km-long tunnel will be constructed at a cost of over Rs 8700 crore.

The tunnel will save travel time between Orange Gate and Marine Drive.

The Prime Minister will dedicate the first phase of the major regional drinking water project, Surya, to the nation. Developed at a cost of over Rs 1975 crore, the project will supply drinking water to Palghar and Thane districts of Maharashtra and will benefit a population of around 14 lakh.

During the event, the Prime Minister will dedicate nearly Rs 2000 crore worth of railway projects to the nation. These include the ‘second phase of the Uran-Kharkopar railway line’ which will further enhance local connectivity with Navi Mumbai and will also flag off the EMU train from Uran Railway Station to Kharkopar.

Apart from this, the Prime Minister is also scheduled to dedicate the new suburban station ‘Digha Gaon’ on the Thane-Vashi/Panvel Trans Harbor line as well as the new sixth rail line between Khar Road and Goregaon railway station to the nation.

These projects will facilitate daily rail travel for thousands of commuters in Mumbai, the statement added.
