West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday informed that 18 Students of West Bengal studying at College of Agriculture, Central Agricultural University, Imphal, have been specially evacuated to Kolkata at the State Government cost.
“They have been flown in to Kolkata by specially arranged flight which landed at 10:15am today (8th May). The students are pursuing BSc/MSc/PhD,” she said.
“Our officers received them at Kolkata airport special desk and arranged their further onward journey from Kolkata to their residences,”she added.
“Efforts are on to evacuate our others stranded in Manipur. All-out solidarity to anyone of us in distress anywhere,” she further informed.
Earlier, Banerjee on Thursday expressed her deep concern over the situation in Manipur.
” It is not the time for politics. Politics & elections can wait but our beautiful state Manipur has to be protected first, ” Banerjee tweeted.
She also urged the Prime Minister and Home Minister to first take care of Manipur anderestore peace there.
” I also urge our brothers and sisters of Manipur to stay calm, uphold peace & harmony. If we burn humanity today, then we will cease to be a human tomorrow, ” Banerjee stated.
Manipur erupted into a deadly clash after the All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur (ATSUM) organised a protest rally against the order of Manipur High Court, which gave direction to Manipur government to take a decision on the demand of Meitei to include Meitei in ST list.
