Voter Info sheet in Braille for convenience of blind voters: PS Chokkalingam

Various facilities are being made available to the voters for the Lok Sabha General Election 2024, and under this, the Braille Voter Information Slip will be made available to the blind voters for their convenience, said State Chief Electoral Officer and Principal Secretary S. Chokkalingam.

He was speaking at a conference that was held at the Mantralaya Legislature Correspondents Association regarding the preparation of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 on Saturday evening.

Joint Secretary and Additional Chief Election Officer Dr.Kiran Kulkarni, Director General of Information and Public Relations Dr.Rahul Tidke, Joint Chief Election Officer Manohar Parkar, and Assistant Secretary and Deputy Election Officer Sharad Dalvi were present.

Chokkalingam said that currently there are approximately 1,16,518 blind voters in the total electorate in the state.

For the convenience of the blind voters for the Lok Sabha General Election 2024, a Braille Voter Information Slip is being made available to them. Also, the Election Commission of India has made available the facility of 12D home voting to eligible voters, including disabled persons with 40 percent disability and senior citizens above 85 years of age.

Accordingly, from across the state, until March 28, 12 D applications of 17,850 voters, including senior citizens above 85 years of age and 5,453 disabled voters with 40 percent disability, have been received.

Also, 12 D applications from 53 voters in essential services have been received till March 28. Speaking further, Chokkalingam said 190 final free symbols have been made available in this election for unrecognized political parties and independent candidates registered by the Election Commission of India, and the Election Commission of India has recognized six nationally recognized political parties and four state-level recognized parties in the state.

Similarly, permission has been given to 241 prominent campaigners from various political parties across the state, he added.
