Agartala, 14th August 2025: An ultrasound facility was officially inaugurated at Kailashahar Sub-Divisional Hospital (RGM) on Thursday. The long-awaited service is expected to benefit thousands of residents across the district, addressing a critical gap in diagnostic care.
The launch ceremony was led by Tripura’s Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy, who emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthening public health services. “The people of Kailashahar have been demanding this facility for a long time,” Roy said during his address. “After assuming office, I took up the matter with our Chief Minister and Health Minister, Professor Dr. Manik Saha, and we were able to implement it swiftly.”
The event was attended by Kailashahar Municipal Council Chairperson Chapala Debroy, Vice Chairperson Nitish Dey, Unakoti District Chief Medical Officer Shirshendu Chakma, SDM Bipul Das and RGM Hospital SDMO Dr. Papiya Rudra Pal, who delivered the welcome speech following the ceremonial lamp lighting.
According to hospital officials, the ultrasound service has been launched at an estimated cost of ₹36 lakh and is currently being operated by a specialist from Unkoti District Hospital. Plans are underway to appoint a permanent radiologist to ensure uninterrupted service.
Minister Roy also highlighted broader investments in the state’s health sector, noting that “around ₹1,000 crore is being spent to upgrade services and infrastructure.” He added that the government intends to renovate the aging facilities at Kailashahar Sub-Divisional Hospital as part of this initiative.
Following the inauguration, dignitaries toured the newly established ultrasound unit. Local residents and medical staff alike expressed optimism that the new service will enhance diagnostic capabilities and reduce the need for patients to travel long distances for basic imaging procedures.
“This is a major step forward for healthcare in our region. We’re hopeful that with continued support, more such facilities will follow,” said SDMO Dr. Rudra Pal.
