Agartala, 5th December 2025: A massive fire broke out late last night at Panisagar market, causing extensive destruction and leaving the entire area in shock and grief.
Within moments, the blaze engulfed 7–8 shops, burning them completely to the ground. The incident has resulted in financial losses amounting to several lakhs, with initial estimates suggesting damages exceeding a crore rupees.
According to local sources, the fire spread rapidly, giving shop owners and residents little time to react. Eight shops were reportedly reduced to ashes before the flames could be brought under control.
Upon receiving information, fire service teams rushed to the scene. A total of four fire engines—two from Panisagar, one from Dharmanagar, and another from Pecharthal in Unakoti district—worked tirelessly for nearly two to three hours to bring the blaze under control. Their efforts, combined with the support of local residents, eventually succeeded in extinguishing the fire.
The cause of the fire is still unknown, and an investigation is currently underway to determine how the incident started.
A pall of fear and sorrow has descended over the Panisagar area following the tragedy. This morning, Panisagar Sub-Divisional Magistrate S. Debbarma and local MLA Binay Bhushan Das visited the site to assess the situation. After reviewing the damage, they announced that the administration is considering providing an initial financial assistance of Rs 1,01,000 to each affected shop owner. The MLA further stated that additional support will be discussed with the Chief Minister.Police personnel and fire service officials continue to investigate the incident to uncover the cause of this devastating fire.
