New voter ID cards distributed to first-time voters at KLS

Agartala, 25th January 2026:    The 16th National Voters’ Day was observed with due dignity at the Unakoti Kalakshetra in Kailashahar, the district headquarters of Unakoti. The event began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by District Magistrate Dr. Tamal Majumdar. He was joined by Superintendent of Police Sudambika R, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Raghul A, District Education Officer Prashanta Kilikdar, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Bipul Das, Additional District Magistrate Kamalesh Dhar, Professor and social worker Sanjib Chowdhury of Ramkrishna Mahavidyalaya, along with other officials and dignitaries.

In his welcome address, SDM Bipul Das underscored the significance of National Voters’ Day and highlighted the vital role of voting rights in strengthening democracy. Speaking to the youth, SDPO Raghul A urged first-time voters to participate fearlessly and responsibly in the electoral process. Adding a historical perspective, SP Sudambika R reminded the audience that the Election Commission of India was established on this very day in 1950. She pointed out that nearly 21 percent of India’s electorate comprises young people, making their contribution crucial in shaping the nation’s future, and further appealed to them to stay away from addictive substances. Addressing the gathering, District Magistrate Dr. Tamal Majumdar advised new voters not to be swayed by inducements or political temptations, but to exercise their judgment wisely. Sharing his personal experience, he emphasized that a single vote carries immense power and has the potential to change the course of the future.

At the conclusion of the first session, nine new voters were formally handed their voter ID cards. Across the district, around 4,032 new voters are receiving their cards through Booth Level Officers (BLOs).On the occasion, Professor and social worker Sanjib Chowdhury and Anupam Das were specially honored as the best BLO supervisors among the 53 assembly constituencies.
