Agartala, 7th April 2026: Hundreds of TET-II qualified unemployed youth were detained by police on Tuesday after staging a massive protest and surrounding the official residence of Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy. The protesters first gathered at City Centre before marching through the streets, demanding the immediate recruitment of all 1,488 candidates who passed the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET-II).
The demonstration was driven by growing frustration over the alleged shortage of teachers in the state. Protesters highlighted many schools, particularly in areas under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), are functioning with only a single teacher. They also expressed disappointment over recent statements made in the Assembly regarding job guarantees, arguing that the current level of vacancies requires urgent recruitment. Candidates from the 2025 batch pointed out that despite passing the examination more than a year ago, they have yet to receive appointment letters.
The situation escalated when the group attempted to surround the minister’s residence, leading to a confrontation with security personnel. Police eventually cleared the area by arresting the demonstrators and transporting them to the AD Nagar Police Line field. The candidates have appealed to Chief Minister Manik Saha to increase the number of advertised posts from 1,020 to accommodate all qualified individuals, vowing to continue their struggle until their demands are met.
