HM Shah Orders Advanced Surveillance Network Along Tripura-Bangladesh Border

Date:

Agartala, 7th June 2026:  Union Home Minister Amit Shah has directed the implementation of the Ministry of Home Affairs’ CCTV surveillance model in Tripura as part of a broader strategy to strengthen security along the India-Bangladesh border. He also ordered the upgrading of all Border Security Force (BSF) cameras and their integration with district administration networks to ensure real-time monitoring and coordination.

The directives were issued during a high-level review meeting on border management held in Salbagan, Tripura, on June 5. The meeting brought together BSF officials, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, Director General of Police Anurag, senior state officials, and the District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police from Tripura’s eight border districts.

Tripura shares an 856-kilometre international boundary with Bangladesh, making effective border management a critical priority for both the state and central governments.

During the meeting, Shah emphasized that border security extends beyond fencing and patrolling, describing it as a collective territorial responsibility involving local administrations, law enforcement agencies, village-level functionaries, and modern technology.

He stressed the need to establish a robust and integrated security framework involving District Magistrates, Superintendents of Police, Patwaris, local representatives, advanced surveillance systems, and the BSF to create a seamless border protection mechanism.

Highlighting the Centre’s commitment to national security, Shah said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, strengthening border infrastructure and security remains a top priority.

The Home Minister also called for awareness and training camps in border villages to help residents identify and respond to threats linked to narcotics smuggling and illegal arms trafficking. He directed that local police personnel, BSF officials, and revenue staff actively participate in these initiatives.

To curb cross-border crime, Shah instructed security agencies to intensify operations against drug and arms trafficking networks and take stringent action against all individuals involved in such activities.

In addition, he underlined the importance of financial vigilance in border districts. He directed authorities to strengthen monitoring of suspicious financial transactions, property deals, and large-scale construction activities. He also ordered a review of land records from the past five years in border areas to detect any irregularities.

Shah further recommended specialised training for district collectors and GST officials, while calling for surveys related to counterfeit currency operations to strengthen economic security in sensitive border regions.

The meeting concluded with a renewed focus on enhancing coordination between state authorities and security agencies to ensure a secure, technology-driven, and well-monitored border management system across Tripura.
