Traffic Disruption on NH-208 as Two Trucks Get Stuck in Waterlogged Potholes

Date:

Agartala, 9th June 2026: Vehicular movement on a crucial stretch of National Highway 208 was severely disrupted on Tuesday morning after two loaded trucks became stranded in large potholes between Erarpura and Dakshin Manikbhandar Bazaar in Kamalpur. Continuous rainfall worsened the already deteriorated condition of the road, causing extensive waterlogging and muddy patches across several sections.

According to local sources, the road has been in a poor state for a long time due to a lack of proper maintenance. While commuters face difficulties on a regular basis, Tuesday’s situation was described as one of the worst in recent months. The two trucks got stuck in the middle of the road, leading to a complete halt in traffic and triggering massive congestion on the key routes connecting Kamalpur–Ambassa, Kamalpur–Kumarghat, and Kailashahar–Agartala.

Hundreds of vehicles, including passenger cars, buses, and goods carriers, remained stranded on both sides of the highway for several hours. The disruption caused significant inconvenience to office-goers, traders, students, patients, and other commuters. Many students were unable to reach their schools and colleges on time, while several people travelling for urgent work were forced to take alternative routes.

Residents alleged that despite the presence of numerous large potholes along the highway for a prolonged period, the concerned authorities have failed to undertake any permanent repair work. They said even moderate rainfall further deteriorates the road condition, increasing the risk of accidents and making daily travel hazardous.

Locals pointed out that NH-208 serves as a vital transportation link connecting the districts of North Tripura, Dhalai, and Unakoti. However, due to prolonged neglect and the absence of timely maintenance, this stretch of the highway has become nearly unfit for traffic movement. Residents also claimed that repeated appeals to the administration and the national highway authorities have yielded no lasting solution to the problem.

The incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for comprehensive repair and maintenance of the highway to ensure safe and uninterrupted connectivity for thousands of commuters in the region.
