Agartala, 23^rd August 2026 : Heavy rainfall in the hill areas of Tripura has triggered flooding in several parts of Agartala after the water level of the Haora River rose sharply late Saturday night, affecting more than 1,000 people in low-lying areas.

Several localities under the Sadar and Jirania subdivisions have been affected, with areas along the Haora River and Katakhal Canal among the worst hit. Floodwater has entered homes and inundated residential areas, leaving several families in need of immediate assistance.

He directed the concerned District Magistrates and Sub-Divisional Magistrates to take all necessary measures and ensure that affected residents receive relief and assistance without delay.

According to the DM, Baldakhal, Chandrapur, Srilanka Basti, Aralia and Indranagar are among the affected areas, where floodwater has entered residential premises. Although there was no significant rainfall on Sunday, rescue operations were intensified from the morning to evacuate residents from vulnerable locations.
