Padma Shri  Satyaram Reang Passes Away

Agartala: October 02 :  Satyaram Reang who was awarded India’s fourth-highest civilian award the Padma Shri in the Arts category, breathed his last today at the age of 85.

Battling chronic illnesses for an extended period, Reang’s contributions to the preservation and popularization of the Hojagiri dance form have left an indelible mark both domestically and internationally.

Born and bred in Shantirbazar, South Tripura district, Reang dedicated his life to the promotion of Hojagiri. He established a school aimed at nurturing young talents in the art, where he tirelessly imparted his wisdom and expertise. His relentless efforts earned him accolades, including the prestigious Sangeet Natya Akademy Award bestowed upon him by the Government of India.

Expressing deep sorrow over Reang’s demise, Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha praised his exceptional role in introducing Tripura’s Janajati folk dance, Hojagiri, to the global stage. The Chief Minister offered heartfelt prayers for peace to the departed soul and strength to the grieving family and numerous well-wishers.
