Agartala, 30th January 2024: Women have made remarkable strides in various fields such as politics, sports, education and culture, and their contribution to India’s freedom struggle was also immense. This was stated by Dipak Majumdar, the Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation, who inaugurated a two-day discussion programme on ‘Kishori Shakti Utkarsh Manch’ at Maharani Tulsibati Girls’ HS School on Tuesday.
‘Kishori Shakti Utkarsh Manch’ is a project of the universal education campaign, which aims to provide a platform for adolescent girls to showcase their talents and skills in sports, education, culture, art and other domains, and to enhance their social recognition and empowerment.
Majumdar said that the ‘Kishori Shakti Utkarsh Manch’ offers a golden opportunity for the young girls to nurture their potential and to excel in their chosen fields. He added that both the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the State Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha are dedicated to the welfare and development of girls, and have launched several schemes such as Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana and others, to facilitate their education and socio-economic upliftment. He urged the girls to take a pledge of hard work, sacrifice and perseverance to achieve their goals and aspirations.
The Chief Guest of the event, Kalyani Roy, the Chief Whip of Tripura Legislative Assembly, said that the society cannot progress without the harmony and cooperation of men and women. She cited the examples of Olympian Deepa Karmakar, Astronaut Kalpana Chawla, Weightlifter Mary Kom and others, who have inspired millions of girls with their remarkable achievements and feats. She encouraged the girls to follow their footsteps and to make their mark in the world.
The event also witnessed the presence and speeches of Subhashish Bandopadhyay, the Director of Elementary Education Department, Olympian Deepa Karmakar and others. Rupan Roy, the district project coordinator, presided over the program and delivered the welcome address. Nandan Sarkar, the Principal of Maharani Tulsibati Girls’ HS School, along with the students, teachers and staff of various schools, attended the event.
The event also honoured and felicitated several eminent women personalities such as Dr. Deepa Karmakar, Miss Charu, Indrani Dey, Dr. Chandrani Biswas, Sharmila Chowdhury, Dr. Gopa Chatterjee, Sumana Debbarma, Pushpita Chakraborty and Nivedita Roy, for their outstanding contributions in different fields. In addition, 50 selected girls from different blocks were awarded for their achievements in various domains. The awards were presented by the guests. The discussion cycle was jointly organized by the universal education and West district administration. Anamika Debbarma, the Headmistress of Bijoy Kumar Girls’ HS School, expressed her gratitude to everyone for making the event a success.
