Agartala, 27th May 2024:   Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), Dipak Majumder, assured residents on Monday that the corporation is fully prepared and working tirelessly to prevent water logging in the city amidst the ongoing Cyclone Remal situation.

During an inspection of various water pump houses across Agartala, Mayor Majumder emphasized the corporation’s commitment to mitigating the impact of the cyclone. He noted that all departments, including AMC, are actively on the ground to ensure the city remains free from water logging.

The Mayor highlighted that power outages pose a significant challenge, as they have caused several water pumps to cease operation, leading to some instances of water logging.

“We have initiated visits to all operational water pumps. The primary issue we face is power cuts, which have rendered some pumps inoperative, resulting in localized water logging. Other than this, we have no major problems. We have deployed five diesel pumps and an additional 15 pumps that are currently functional. Our officials, staff, and pump operators are working around the clock. Our goal is to make Agartala water logging-free, and our preparedness is contingent on the rainfall. Nonetheless, we are ready to tackle the situation. We have also cleaned the city’s drainage systems and mobilized extra manpower,” Mayor Majumder stated.

The Mayor’s remarks reflect the proactive measures being taken by AMC to address the challenges posed by Cyclone Remal and ensure the city’s resilience against water logging.
