Agartala, 4th October 2024:  A storm of corruption charges has engulfed Minister Bikash Debbarma of the ‘Double Engine’ government. Congress MLA Sudip Roy Burman recently launched a scathing attack in the Assembly, accusing the Minister of Janjati Kalyan Department of amassing wealth at the speed of a double engine train, while neglecting the development of the state’s people.

In an Assembly session, Roy Burman repeatedly emphasized his accusations creating a political uproar. Minister Debbarma responded by holding a press conference, where he admitted to owning multiple properties both within and outside the state, while vehemently denying any wrongdoing.

The controversy has sparked a political storm, with various news outlets extensively covering the developments. Minister Debbarma’s admission has led to widespread speculation and criticism, with many questioning the integrity of the ‘Double Engine’ government.

In response to the allegations, the state BJP organized a protest march across Tripura on Friday, denouncing what they termed as opposition propaganda. During the march in the capital, Minister Debbarma was seen holding the party flag and chanting slogans against Sudip Roy Burman, indicating his deep-seated concern over the accusations.

Despite the BJP’s efforts to rally support, the protest march revealed cracks within the party. Minister Debbarma’s repeated chants against Sudip Roy Burman were met with limited enthusiasm from his supporters, highlighting the growing tension within the party ranks.

The political scenario in Tripura remains volatile, with Minister Debbarma’s actions suggesting a premeditated effort to counter the allegations. As the situation takes place, all eyes are on the ‘Double Engine’ government and its ability to navigate this crisis.
