Agartala, 21st January 2025:   Intense tension gripped Kailashahar following the arrest of Anjan Debroy, an active member of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), for allegedly raping a maid working at his residence. The incident has sparked public outrage and political turmoil in the region.

Ripita Bhattacharya, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Kailashahar Women’s Police Station, confirmed that the accused, had been sexually exploiting the victim for an extended period. The victim filed a detailed written complaint with the women’s police station, leading to Debroy’s immediate arrest.

A case has been registered under sections 126(2)/64(2)(M)/74,115(2)/351(2) BNS, and the accused was produced in Kailashahar court earlier this afternoon. Despite significant pressure from local BJP leaders, who allegedly gathered at the police station to demand Debroy’s release, OC Bhattacharya maintained her stance and ensured the legal process was upheld.

“We are committed to justice, and the law will take its course regardless of political affiliations,” said OC Bhattacharya.

The incident has stirred a heated debate about law enforcement and political accountability in the region. While opposition parties criticized the BJP for harboring such individuals, party leaders refrained from issuing an immediate statement.

Protests and calls for justice continue to echo across Kailashahar as residents await further developments in this high-profile case.
