Assam police seized 404 kilos of cannabis at Churaibari

Agartala, November 11: Assam police on Friday afternoon seized a bulk quantity of cannabis in 69 small and large packets at Churaibari Checkpost.

Assam’s Churaibari Outpost in-charge Niranjan Das stopped a truck bearing registration number TR01B-1747 and conducted a search operation. Churaibari police personnel found that the truck is empty. The truck cross the Tripura border and entered Assam’s Churaibari Checkpoint at around 1 PM on Friday.

A total of 69 small and large pockets of cannabis were seized in the cabin of the vehicle. Later, all these were measured and found to be four hundred and four kilograms of cannabis.

The in-charge said that the black market value of which is about Rs 8 lakh. However, the driver and co-driver have been arrested in this cannabis smuggling case. The arrested are Sujan Mia (32) and Imdadur Haque (38), both are the residents of Sonamura in Sepahijala district.

The arrested are currently in police custody, a case will be registered against them under the NDPS Act and sent to the District Court of Karimganj.

Meanwhile, the arrested driver has confessed that the truck loaded with cannabis was being taken from Jirania in West Tripura district to Assam. However, the vigilant troops of BSF and CRPF were also present to seize the cannabis.
