Agartala, 18th May 2025: The Khowai Cultural Campaign successfully organized a two-day theatre evening at Khowai Old Town Hall on May 16 and 17 featuring young theatre artists from Town Hall Manch Kapal Sansthan. The event celebrated the rich artistic tradition of Khowai, widely regarded as the cultural hub of the state with a strong legacy in theatre.
The opening evening featured two plays by the youth department. The first, Praner Pradip Jwele Dao, written by Bibhu Bhattacharya and directed by Biplab Pal explored themes of nature conservation through a child-friendly aesthetic. A talented young cast including Vihangan Pal, Preyasi Das and Anubhab Dey brought the story to life with engaging performances.
The second play Amar Sabhi Raja, written by Sanjay Kar depicted a group of children learning about India’s journey to independence and the idea that every individual is a ruler in their own right. Through dynamic ensemble performances, actors such as Bishwayan Pal and Koel Kar effectively conveyed the play’s patriotic message. The stage setup, lighting and music were arranged by a dedicated team, including Rupak Chanda and Dulal Das.
On the second evening, artist Sujit Das presented Naksi Kanthar Math, a dance drama based on Jasimuddin’s poetic novel. The production depicted the tragic love story of Rupai and Saju, with compelling performances from Sujit Das and Shreya Bhattacharya. A group of 26 young artists successfully portrayed the nuances of rural life, immersing the audience in the emotions of the narrative.
Despite minor technical challenges in lighting, the festival was widely regarded as a cultural success. The audience left with smiles, reflecting on the artistic excellence showcased over two memorable evenings in Khowai’s theatre scene.
