Agartala, 24th June 2025:   Tensions flared in Barjala assembly constituency after an alleged attack on the residence of CPIM leader Badal Das on the night of June 22 last, following a peaceful local conference of the CPIM Agricultural Workers Union held at his home in booth no. 6.

According to eyewitnesses, a group of miscreants reportedly affiliated with the ruling BJP vandalized the property damaging the boundary wall and household furniture. Family members sustained minor injuries during the assault, triggering panic in the locality.

Former Chief Minister and CPIM Politburo member Manik Sarkar visited the site on Monday morning, accompanied by CPIM leader Ratan Das and former MP Shankar Prasad Datta. Speaking to reporters, Sarkar condemned the incident, calling it “a cowardly attack” and accused the ruling party of “resorting to terrorism to suppress democratic rights.”

No official statement has yet been issued by the administration. However, additional police forces have been deployed in the area, and authorities have assured that an investigation is underway.

The CPIM has announced plans for a statewide protest, demanding swift action against the perpetrators. “The people of Tripura will not tolerate such intimidation. We want justice, and we want it now,” said a local CPIM worker.
