Agartala, 10th September 2024: The Tripura State Committee of the All India Krishak Sabha convened a significant meeting at Krishak Bhavan in the capital city addressing the pressing concerns of farmers affected by the recent floods. The meeting saw the participation of youth movement leaders from various subdivisions and districts, who gathered to discuss the extent of government support provided to farmers during the calamity.
In a candid discussion, it was revealed that the administration failed to support the flood-affected populace. “The administration was completely inactive,” stated a committee member, highlighting the absence of any administrative assistance during the crisis.
In response to the dire situation, the committee has penned a letter to the Prime Minister, urging the declaration of the flood as a national calamity. “We demand that the government stand by the people and cooperate,” emphasized All India Farmer Leader Hannan Molla during a press conference on behalf of the Tripura State Committee. He further criticized the government’s reluctance to acknowledge the severity of the disaster, particularly pointing out the Tripura government’s stance.
“The government does not want to declare this flood as a national disaster,” Molla asserted. He stressed the necessity of cooperation from the Prime Minister and the declaration of the flood as a national calamity. The committee also plans to submit a similar letter to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha.
The meeting underscored the need for government intervention to aid the affected farmers. “After this flood, the all-party meeting demanded the government to help the people properly, especially the farmers,” Molla added. However, due to the government’s inaction, the committee has decided to escalate their demands through agitation.
Molla did not mince words when addressing the broader political context, criticizing the current NDA government. “They are enemies of poor people. During the tenure of this government, the lives of people in all parts are in danger. The government wants to take revenge on the historical farmers’ movement,” he declared.
In a call to action, Molla announced that protests against Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be organized across various states on November 26. “Party workers have been instructed to organize this movement in Tripura as well,” he stated.
The press conference was also attended by State Committee President Aghore Debbarma, Secretary Pabitra Kar and other leaders, who echoed the sentiments expressed by Molla and reiterated their commitment to supporting the farmers in their struggle.
