Agartala, 11th March 2024: In a poignant ceremony, the 126th battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) paid tribute to the late Constable Arup Das by unveiling a memorial at one of its Border Outposts (BOP) named Arup. The ceremony took place on March 11, 2024, and was graced by the presence of Shri Paramjit Singh, DIG of Sector Headquarters Teliamura, along with Commandant Nandish Kunwar and troops from the 126th Battalion.
Late Constable Arup Das, hailing from D Company 101 Battalion BSF, displayed exceptional courage in the face of adversity. In 2010, while deployed at post Ratia Para (now BOP Arup), his patrol party fell under a sudden ambush orchestrated by NLFT (BM) militants. In the courageous encounter that ensued, Constable Arup Das sustained severe injuries, ultimately making the supreme sacrifice for his duty. In recognition of his valiant act, Constable Arup Das was posthumously conferred with the Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG), and the BOP was aptly named ‘ARUP’ to commemorate his heroic deeds.
The memorial, constructed to honor the fallen hero, stands as a testament to the indomitable spirit and sacrifice of Constable Arup Das. The unveiling ceremony witnessed full force honors, with a wreath-laying ceremony conducted in remembrance of the brave Seema Prahari. Shri Paramjit Singh, DIG, Sector Headquarters Teliamura, led the solemn event, underscoring the BSF’s commitment to honoring its fallen heroes and preserving their legacy of bravery and dedication to duty.
