Agartala, 30th March 2024: Residents of Deoracherra ADC Village, located within the Gournagar block of Kailashahar, are grappling with a severe drinking water shortage. The crisis stems from the local administration’s failure to repair the sole tube well in Ward No.1, which has been inoperative for an extended period.
Despite repeated pleas to the panchayat secretary and the health and drinking water department officials, villagers report that the promised regular water supply—delivered via vehicles—has been inconsistent and insufficient. The situation is particularly dire given the village’s proximity to the main town of Kailashahar in Unakoti District, a mere five kilometers away.
The water scarcity first became acute two and a half years ago following the tube well’s breakdown. Villagers sought assistance from the Drinking Water and Sanitation Department after the panchayat failed to address the issue. While the department initially ensured a steady supply of water, the frequency of deliveries has dwindled, leaving residents without water for days at a time.
The community’s frustration is palpable, with many expressing dissatisfaction over the irregular and inadequate water distribution. The villagers’ urgent call to action is for the responsible department to prioritize the restoration of a reliable drinking water supply.
