Dharmanagar police nabs heroin smugglers from Assam

Agartala, January 19: The Dharmanagar police station of North Tripura district arrested three drug traffickers from Assam along with 12 grams of heroin on Friday. The smugglers were travelling in a luxury car with the registration number AS06V-2143 and were intercepted by the police in the Kameshwar area.

The arrested smugglers have been identified as Sihab Uddin, Suman Uddin and Riazul Uddin, who hail from Patharkandi and Barigram of Karimganj district of Assam. They were caught red-handed with a packet of heroin hidden in a soap box inside the car.

The Second OC of Dharmanagar police station, Momtaz Hasina, said that the police had received a tip-off from Assam that some smugglers were planning to bring banned heroin to Dharmanagar city in luxury cars. Based on this information, the police had deployed plainclothes officers in various parts of the city to nab the culprits.

She said that the police have registered a case under Section 22(B)/25/29 of NDPS No.6 and have started the investigation to find out the source and destination of the heroin. She said that the arrested smugglers will be produced before the Dharmanagar District and Sessions Court on Friday.
