Agartala, 25th July 2023: In a heart-wrenching incident at Khowai District Hospital, a pregnant woman named Samprika Debbarma, aged 23, tragically lost her life during a caesarean section procedure. The incident occurred on July 22, leaving her family devastated and raising serious concerns about the medical care provided.
According to her husband, Swami Biswajit Debbarma, his wife was under the care of Dr. Amulya Debbarma, a gynecologist at Khowai District Hospital, throughout her pregnancy. On July 17, she was admitted to the hospital for childbirth and gave birth to a daughter on July 21 at 6 pm.
Unfortunately, complications arose after the delivery, leading to severe bleeding. The hospital allegedly did not inform the family about the critical situation as time passed. Tragically, Samprika Debbarma passed away in the early hours of July 22. Her husband was informed by the hospital to transfer her to GB Hospital in an effort to save her life.
However, before the transfer could take place, Biswajit sought permission to see his wife, but he was reportedly denied access by the working nurses. Eventually, at 6 o’clock in the morning on July 22, Samprika’s lifeless body, along with her baby girl, was referred to GB Hospital in an ambulance.
Biswajit noticed blood coming out of his wife’s mouth during the journey. Upon reaching GB Hospital at 7:30 am, doctors declared her dead.
Following the post-mortem, the hospital authorities handed over Samprika’s body to Biswajit, and she was later cremated at her in-laws’ house on July 22 afternoon.
The blame for this tragedy falls on the gynecologist, Dr. Amulya, who has reportedly gone missing since the incident. Biswajit demanded a thorough investigation into the matter, urging the state’s chief minister to take the matter seriously.
In response to the allegations, Dr. Amulya Debbarma stated that the surgery was successful, and the referral to GB Hospital happened because of complications that arose after the procedure.
The bereaved family is demanding a fair investigation into the incident to ascertain the truth and prevent similar tragedies from happening to other pregnant women in the future. The community is mourning the untimely loss of Samprika Debbarma and seeking justice for her and her family.
