Agartala, 24th September 2025 : In a significant step toward sustainable rural development, the Tripura Government’s Department of Biotechnology, in collaboration with the Ashraya Foundation and foreign financial partners, officially launched Bio Village 2.0 in Behalabari, located in the Tulshikhar block of Khowai district.
The inauguration ceremony took place today at the Behalabari Panchayat Hall, was attended by State Forest, Science and Technology Minister Animesh Debbarma, who lauded the initiative as a model for eco-conscious development. Also present were Ashraya Foundation Director Nalini Kumar, CSR Incharge of Canara HSBC Bank Zenil Dharani, Joint Director of the Biotechnology Department Anjan Sengupta credited as the architect of the project and other senior officials.
Minister Debbarma praised the Ashraya Foundation’s efforts and emphasized that the foreign investment backing Bio Village 2.0 was secured entirely through the Department of Biotechnology. “This project, conceived by one of our own officers, is now being recognized across the country,” he said.
Bio Village 2.0 aims to promote socio-economic upliftment and ecological conservation by integrating modern, sustainable technologies into rural livelihoods. A total of 56 beneficiaries from Behalabari have been enrolled in the program. Following an assessment of local natural resources, each participant selects three to five components tailored to their needs.
The distributed resources include energy-efficient appliances, organic fertilizers, battery-operated spray machines, biomass coke stoves, biogas units, mushroom cultivation kits, beekeeping equipment, and livestock such as ducks, chickens, goats, piglets, and fish fry. These are provided in phases to ensure effective implementation and long-term impact.
The initiative marks a promising collaboration between government agencies, non-profit organizations, and international investors, setting a precedent for future eco-development projects in the region.
