Agartala, 9th August 2025:   A devastating fire broke out shortly after midnight in the Laltila area under Khowai police station gutting four residential structures belonging to Shital Nama. The incident took place around 12 am while the family was away attending a relative’s function in Agartala. No casualties were reported, but the financial loss is estimated to exceed Rs 20 lakh.

According to Shital Nama, the fire completely destroyed all four concrete-built homes. The family rushed back to the site today around 3 am only to find their property reduced to ashes. The cause of the fire remains unknown, though locals suspect foul play, citing the scale and intensity of the blaze.

Residents of Laltila expressed frustration over the delayed response from the fire department, claiming that timely intervention could have saved at least part of the property. Despite their efforts to contain the flames, the fire engulfed both the exterior and interior of the homes, leaving nothing behind.

Shital Nama, an auto-rickshaw driver and his younger brother, who works in a timber mill had built the homes through years of hard work. The tragedy has raised questions about whether the fire was accidental or the result of a deliberate act stemming from personal enmity. Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause.

This morning, Khowai Zilla Parishad Sabhadipati Aparna Singh Roy visited the site to assess the situation. It remains unclear whether any official assistance has been extended to the affected family.
