Agartala, 3rd May 2025: Concerns have been raised over the work culture among government employees in Tripura, as reports emerge of officials and educators attending events during office and school hours. On May 1st, at a Gomati Zilla Parishad conference, the Gomati District Magistrate was felicitated for the district’s recognition on a national level. However, a separate program held during office hours has sparked debate over the participation of key officials.
The program reportedly attended by members of the Rashtravadi Karmakram Sangh included government employees, school teachers and district officials. Among the attendees was Gomtai District Deputy Education Officer Bikash Nath, whose presence in an organizational event during school hours has drawn criticism.
“If senior officials themselves disregard working hours, how can they enforce discipline among educators?” questioned a local legislator, highlighting the declining state of the Gomati District Education Administration.
Despite the program being hosted at the District Magistrate’s office, the Magistrate himself refrained from attending. Sources suggest that he does not support political engagements during official hours.
Efforts are reportedly underway by the Rashtravadi government to restore work culture in offices and schools. “Public services must be delivered on time, and education must be prioritized,” stated an official, underscoring the administration’s commitment to infrastructure improvements and timely service delivery.
The debate continues as officials work to balance governance responsibilities with adherence to work ethics. Meanwhile, scrutiny intensifies over the involvement of government employees in non-official programs during critical work hours.
