Agartala, 16th November 2024 : The government of Tripura has announced a significant initiative to overhaul the training infrastructure in 19 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) over the next five years in collaboration with the Tata Group. This ambitious project will see an investment of Rs 570.40 crore with the Tata Group bearing 86 percent of the cost and the Tripura government covering the remaining 14 percent. Additionally, the state government has decided to spend Rs 121.87 crore by taking a loan from NABARD to support this initiative.
Addressing a press conference here at Civil Secretariat on Saturday afternoon, Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury emphasized the importance of technical expertise for the success of startup companies, as called for by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “ITI colleges in Tripura need to be further developed in terms of infrastructure. Therefore, the state government has decided to radically change the training in 19 ITIs in Tripura for the next five years with the help of the Tata Group,” said Chowdhury.
Chowdhury highlighted that the Tata Group has already invested in ITI colleges in several states, including Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Goa, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Telangana. The collaboration aims to develop the infrastructure jointly, with a primary focus on training students using new machines and technology. “The Tata Group will bear 86 percent of the cost of ITI colleges in Tripura, and the Tripura government will bear 14 percent. This investment will significantly enhance the training infrastructure of ITIs in Tripura,” he added.
The state government is optimistic that this initiative will create ample employment opportunities for the students of Tripura. “We hope that the students of Tripura will benefit greatly from this collaboration and find ample employment opportunities,” expressed Chowdhury.
The Tripura government is set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tata Technologies very soon, marking the beginning of this transformative journey. The initiative underscores the government’s commitment to improving technical education and fostering economic growth in the state.
