Agartala, 18th January 2025: The second phase of ‘Jagriti 2025’ was launched on Saturday at the Gitanjali Auditorium in Kumarghat in collaboration with the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, the Department of Transport and the Department of Higher Education. The event aimed to promote a drug-free Tripura, road safety, consumer protection, and included a quiz competition among students from six colleges in Unakoti, North, and Dhalai districts.
Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury inaugurated the event emphasizing the government’s commitment to building a drug-free Tripura. “The state government is organizing such events to create awareness among the youth and prevent addiction,” he said. Chowdhury highlighted the importance of inter-college quiz competitions in educating the youth about the dangers of addiction and urged them to form a public movement against it. “Tripura cannot be made drug-free unless public awareness is increased,” he added.
The minister also addressed the issue of road safety, noting the rising number of accidents in the state. “We need to be more careful while driving, ensure vehicle drivers are cautious, and encourage bike riders to use helmets and avoid using mobile phones while driving,” he appealed.
Food and Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury reiterated the importance of vigilance against drug addiction and road safety awareness. “The Food and Transport Department has made this awareness program a calendar event to continuously educate the public on these issues,” he stated. Addressing the college students, he said, “Only students can build a healthy society. You must come forward to build a drug-free Tripura and raise awareness about road safety.”
The event was also attended by Animal Resources Development Minister Sudhangshu Das and Industries Minister Shantana Chakma. Minister Das urged everyone to take an oath to make Tripura drug-free. “If we want to protect our future generations, we must start a mass movement against addiction now. Today’s event will help advance the movement to make Tripura drug-free,” he said.
Students from six colleges in North, Unakoti and Dhalai districts participated in the inter-college quiz competition. Successful students were awarded prizes by the guests present. MLA Bhagwan Chandra Das and MLA Paul Dhanshu also attended the event, with Unakoti Zilla Parishad’s Sabhadipati Amalendu Das presiding. Subrata Chowdhury, Additional Secretary of the Transport Department delivered the welcome speech.
