Agartala, 9th January 2026:   The vibrant spirit of Bengal’s folk heritage came alive at the two-day Baul and Folk Culture Festival held on January 3 and 4, 2025, at the Murapara Higher Secondary School grounds near the sacred Matabari in Udaipur. Organized by the Lok Sanskriti Sansad with support from the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs, Gomati Zilla Parishad, and Udaipur Municipal Council, the event drew large crowds and celebrated the rich tapestry of regional music and traditions.

The festival was formally inaugurated by local MLA Abhishek Debroy, who lit the ceremonial lamp in the presence of Gomati Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Debal Debroy, Shalgarah MLA Jitendra Majumdar, and Udaipur Municipal Council Chairperson Shital Chandra Majumdar. Lok Sanskriti Sansad President Arun Nath presided over the inaugural session.

Speaking on the occasion, organization secretary Lilen Deb emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting indigenous art forms. “This festival is not just a celebration of music—it is a tribute to our roots, our identity, and the voices of our soil. Through Baul songs and folk performances, we reconnect with the soul of our culture,” he said.

The event featured an impressive lineup of folk artists from across Tripura, including Babli Roy from Dharmanagar, Srijita Chakraborty from Kamalpur, Moutushi Das from Khowai, Manoranjan Das from Sabroom, Khalek Mia from Amarpur, and a host of performers from Agartala such as Sajal Saha, Kabir Krishna Dutta, Amit Acharya, and Lilen Deb himself. Artists from Sonamura—Meenakshi Das, Radheshyam Acharya, and Satyaban Das—also captivated the audience with their soulful renditions.

Instrumental accompaniment was provided by a talented ensemble including Tathagata Das, Akash Mondal, Rajat Kumar Nath, Asit Biswas, Swapan Bhowmik, Bapi Roy Barman, Surajit Das, Kaushik Banik, and Dipankar Natta.

The festival concluded with a renewed call to nurture folk traditions and ensure their transmission to future generations.
