Agartala, 28th August 2025: Tripura Legislative Assembly Member Ranjit Debbarma has written to the Speaker of the Assembly highlighting alleged irregularities in the recruitment process for the post of Junior Reporter under the Tripura Legislative Assembly Secretariat.
In his letter, Debbarma expressed concern over what he termed as “severe deprivation” of certain candidates and “artificial technicalities” used to suppress illegal and unethical practices. He pointed out that the written test for the recruitment, held on November 8, 2017, revealed that two Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates were awarded “zero marks” out of 50 in each written paper, a result he described as “quite absurd in nature.”
According to the merit list, candidate Nishi Kanta Debbarma scored 66 marks while Tanika Debbarma scored 56 out of 170. However, both candidates faced rejection due to the controversial “zero marks” awarded in the written section. Debbarma emphasized that such marking has resulted in denial of Government Service opportunities to the candidates.
The MLA further pointed out that while the advertisement had announced six vacancies—three for the unreserved category and three for ST candidates—the posts for ST category still remain vacant. He questioned why eligible candidates in the merit list were not considered despite vacancies.
Debbarma also noted that although the candidates filed RTI applications seeking scrutiny and review of answer scripts, the photocopies of the answer sheets were not supplied to them, raising suspicion about transparency in the evaluation process.
“Such unfair marking has pushed deserving candidates into prolonged appeals and deprived them of their rightful opportunities since 2017,” Debbarma wrote. He urged the Speaker to take immediate action to resolve the matter, address the appeal petition, and ensure justice for the aggrieved candidates.
