Agartala, 15th February 2025: Michael Madhusudan Dutta College, Sabroom organized a special discussion on the history of science practice in India. Professor Amiya Kumar Panda, Vice -Chancellor, Rani Rasmani Green University, Hooghly, West Bengal was present as the speaker. Dr. Anupam Guha, principal of the college presided over the programme. Retired professor Dr. Goutam Chel, Professors and students were present in the special programme.
Professor Panda urged that nothing has about the eternal truth in the disciple of Science. This is the essence of science practice. From the time of Ptolemy to till date, it is not possible to finish the evolution of the world’s science and the history of science practice in the Indian subcontinent. He said that science originated from logical psyche. The ancient civilizations that have been discovered in the side of Indus river, the Mahenjo-Daro and Harappa Civilization and other places in India are the identity of the scientific vision and acumen of ancient India. The use of bronze produced in a combination of metals such as gold, silver, copper, tin, lead has been noticed. It is said that the ancient Indians were familiar with the scientific method of recovering metals and the use of metals. It is said that they had a deep knowledge of chemistry when it was noticed that a smooth dishes like glass depicted in various descriptions. Small scripts written in unfamiliar letters on the currency, which is an index of civilization’s aggression. The identity of the logical attitude is evident in our ancient book the Rigveda.
Professor Panda also pointed out that the identify of astrology is essential in order to start the discussion of science practice in ancient India. The mysterious references to the sun, the moon, the stars etc. are the uniqueness of the distant practice of science. He also spoke of mathematician-astronomers Aryabhatta and said he discovered that the Earth moves round the Sun , discovered the trigonometry Sign and applied it to astrological calculations. Professor Panda also speaks of the great researchers like Barahmahir, Charak, Sushrut. In the wide background of western science thinking and research in modern times, the science and review of ancient India must be in the way of youth.
Dr. Anupam Guha appealed to the students present to gather the correct information about the history of the science practice of ancient India. He said that the knowledge of science practice of ancient India will enhance our scientific preparation. Professor Arup Patari and Professor Tapan Shil addressed the welcome speech and vote of thanks. Dr. Mahua Chowdhury conducted the entire program. The discussion ended with question answer session among the students present and finally singing of the national anthem.
