Museum paves way for future generations: Sushanta Chowdhury

Agartala, May 19, 2023: Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Thursday evening said that museums play an important role in introducing history to future generations and for this development of tourism industry is one of the goals of the present state government.

“History can be preserved in museums. Museums play an important role in introducing history to future generations”, said Minister Chowdhury.

Tourism Minister Chowdhury said this while inaugurating the International Museum Day celebration program organized jointly by the Tourism Department of Tripura Government and Tourism Ministry.

On the occasion, the Tourism Minister said that the museum in the Ujjayanta Palace in Agartala showcases the achievements of the Maharajas of the state, Rabindranath Tagore’s trip to Tripura.

“This museum has been designed with the aim that future generations can be informed about the traditional culture of the state. The state tourism department has taken various initiatives to move Tripura forward on the tourism map. Swadesh Darshan-1 and Swadesh Darshan-2 projects will make the entire state attractive to tourists. Development of tourism industry is one of the goals of the present government of the state”, he said.

Uttam Kumar Chakma, Secretary of the Department of Tourism said in his speech that this day is being celebrated since 1977.

“The main objective of this day is to preserve our culture properly. An attempt has been made to highlight the traditional culture of Tripura through this museum”, he said.  In his welcome address, Director of Tourism Department Tapan Kumar Das said that this day has been celebrated in the state today through various events.

Meanwhile, the residents of the Child Care Institute at Abhaynagar visited the museum. Winners of poster making competition, quiz competition organized on the occasion of Buddha Purnima and Rabindra Jayanti were awarded on the occasion. Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury handed over the prizes to the winners. A wonderful cultural program was performed on the occasion in the evening.
