Agartala, 24th June 2025: The Tripura government will convene a high-level meeting on Tuesday to review the stock and supply of essential commodities, including fuel, after a landslide in Assam disrupted train services connecting the state.
The railway track between New Haflong and Jatinga Lampur in Assam was severely damaged on Monday evening when boulders and landmass fell onto the tracks. Officials said the landslide was likely triggered by ongoing road repair work being carried out by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
A senior Tripura government official, requesting anonymity, confirmed that state authorities have been in close contact with the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) since the incident.
“We received the alert and immediately reached out to the Area Manager of Badarpur under NFR on Monday night. Restoration work is ongoing on a war footing,” the official said.
He added that a high-level meeting will be held later in the day to assess the situation and take steps to ensure there is no disruption in the supply of essential items, especially petroleum products.
Meanwhile, train services continue to be affected. The Agartala-Bengaluru Express has been cancelled due to persistent debris—rocks, mud, and loose earth—falling near the Jatinga Lampur station. The Sealdah-bound Kanchanjungha Express, which originates from Sabroom in South Tripura, has also been cancelled between Sabroom and Lumding.
Earlier on Monday, the NFR had cancelled three trains originating from Agartala citing safety concerns due to the ongoing track clearance and repair operations.
